Namibia shows constant support to tourism

Namibia will carry on aiding the tourism sector to pull greater number of visitors, as the accomplishment of the sector has a constructive impact on the economy of the country, a government official said Thursday.


Heather Sibungo, the Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Namibia, emphasized this when she formally opened the 22nd edition in Windhoek of the Namibia Tourism Expo 2022.


She said that an event of this height is excellent for the development of tourism and destination marketing, more importantly as they attempt to improve the sector from the pandemic impact. From Thursday to Saturday, the three-day tourism expo will be held, serving as a platform for all suppliers, service providers, tour operators, consumers, travel agents, organizations for destination marketing, and media to enhance and market their services and products to each other and directly to the consumers.


Sibungo said that the sector remains careful as the World Tourism Organization continues to request for powerful synchronization on travel rules between countries to make sure the safe tourism revival and keep away from massive losses for the sector.


She added that because of the unprecedented socio-economic effects of covid on tourism, the MEFT has developed a Namibia Tourism Sector Recovery Plan 2022-2024 to stimulate the sector and setting out a national framework of a strategic advancement to the improvement process with needed intervention of the policy.
