Nashville heads Tennessee tourism in visitor spending with $6.5 billion

Nashville Tennessee tourismIn 2017, the tourism of Nashville has once again guided the entire state of Tennessee with around $6.5 billion in terms of visitor spending. State officials unveiled this 2017 report on the Economic Impact of Travel on Tennessee Counties earlier today. Nashville’s $6.5 billion shows almost one-third of domestic visitor spending across Tennessee and is an 8.5 percent rise over 2016’s $6 billion visitor spending level.

 
To quote Ronnie Smith, Head of Corporate Bank, Regions Bank, who is the chair of the NCVC board of directors, “We could not be prouder of this city and this industry. Nashville is truly a top global destination. Today’s numbers validate the years of hard work and collaboration by so many in our industry.”

 
Among the Top Five counties, Davidson County (Nashville) was followed by Shelby (Memphis) at $3.5 billion; Sevier (Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge) at $2.3 billion; Hamilton (Chattanooga) at $1.1 billion; and Knox (Knoxville) at $1.1 billion.

 
Tourism boom in Nashville is on a seven-year streak with hotel rooms selling at a record growth in 89 out of the last 92 months. For six years at a stretch, Nashville has been named by many travel outlets as top global destination. Last year, Cvent positioned Nashville seventh among the Top 50 meeting destinations in America. Nine new hotel properties were inaugurated in 2017 and seven properties with 1,380 rooms have opened till now in 2018.
