National conference on self-reliant coastal agriculture at Old Goa

Agro-ecotourism has presentednew roads ofopportunity to increase farm income, opined ShripadNaik, the Union Minister of Tourism, Shipyard and Waterways.


Minister Naikspoke at the national conference on self-reliant coastal agriculture at Old Goa. He said that this symposium will be a knowledge sharing platform, showing us a way to sustainable coastal agriculture which will be of advantage to farmers, scientists and other stakeholders.


Mahesh Patil, the chairman of Goa State Pollution Control Board said that khazan land needs to be recoveredwith the help of integrated farming method. Also, agro-ecotourism needs to be encouraged to better the income of farmers. Patilsaid that climate change is a reality and research should be encouraged for the development of climate-resilient agriculture.


The national symposium was hosted by the ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa. It featured a lot of sessions and important discussionsregarding coastal agriculture. In the event, Padma Shri Awardee AmaiMahalingaNaik was honored by eminent names for his invention in water preservation and adapting barren lands into green and fertile lands.


The Environment Minister of Goa Nilesh Cabral said that there isan urgent need to revive the fifth century old and traditional agriculture system of Goa with the help of eco-friendly approaches of bund stabilization, incorporationof pisciculture and agriculture, and this will make Goa a self-dependent state in the domain of agriculture.
