The national level conference organized by the Ministry of Tourism for creating a consensus on integrated tourist police policy in states is thought to be graced with the presence of director-generals or inspector-generals of police from states and union territories in India.
The Ministry of Tourism said that the program of the national conference is application of a unified Tourist Police Scheme at pan India level for improving the tourist centric policing.
Om Birla, Speaker at the Lok Sabha will be the chief guest at the conference, and will be addressed among others by G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Tourism; Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for Tourism and Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home.
Bearing in mind the significance that tourists confer to the well-being and security at visiting destinations, the national conference will deliberate on setting of roles and duties for tourist police and their training for providing a harmless environment for both foreign and domestic tourists in and around tourist destinations.
During the conference, the report on ‘Tourist Police Scheme’ arranged by BPR&D will be considered. The thought behind this conference is coming up with a devoted team of police personnel by States/ UTs to take care of the necessities of the foreign and domestic tourists, along with their safety & security. The government expects that this would change the perception of India regarding tourist safety at global level and make India a must visit destination.
