Nayar Kudru, a tiny island off Tannirbhavi Beach in Mangaluru, would get a makeover, through an island tourism project.
The Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) has reserved Rs. 40 crore for developing several tourism undertakings in Nayar Kudru. The special purpose vehicle (SPV) will develop various infrastructure for starting water sports, a music academy and recreational activities in Nayar Kudru.
MSCL officials said that the project will be carried on in an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.
MSCL general manager Arun Prabha said that the SPV has already planned to develop both sides of Sultan Battery and Tannirbhavi under a sea link, which will cost Rs. 84 crore.
A 260m long pedestrian-only hanging bridge will be built across the Phalguni River, and would link two major tourism destinations—Sultan Battery and Tannirbhavi.
For promoting cultural activities, an open auditorium with a music academy is being thought of in Nayar Kudru, along with water sports and other activities.
The MSCL has reserved around Rs. 200 crore for the waterfront project, which will be completed in a phased manner.
The project would develop the waterfront as alively recreational and commercial area with waterfront gardens, parks, pedestrian-friendly walkways, bicycle track, boardwalks, nature park and adventure sports.
