In order to revitalize pandemic-stricken tourism sector, Nepal Government has started imparting skill training to locals involved in tourism activities. The tourism and hospitality industry of Nepal is still facing scarcities with the majority of employees leaving the sector in the course of the pandemic.

Numerous tour guides and service staff in Nepal either changed their line of work or left the country looking for work.

In 2020, Nepal was anticipating to double tourist numbers coming to the country, which exceeded 1 million in 2019. However, 2020 brought disaster, with COVID-19 impacting the lives of millions of people.

Consequently, in 2021, tourist arrivals in Nepal were nearly 34.3 percent less, and income from the tourism sector reduced by about 46 percent compared to the year before.

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), cooperating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP). This plan is aimed toward bringing assistance, chiefly for the workers and laborers associated with tourism.

With this project, the Nepal Government is at present trying to perk up the tourism sector by encouraging participation of women, since men are away for longer periods working out of the country as migrant laborers. There is a marked gender inequity in the tourism sector of Nepal. For several years, men have continued to dominate the tourism sector.
