The tourism segment was severely impacted by the corona virus pandemic. However, it is gradually coming back on track. 88,582 tourists visited Nepal till November. In the ten months of this year, a total of 4,73,563 tourists visited Nepal.

Before the pandemic, in 2019, 1.2 million tourists visited Nepal. The Nepal government is aiming reviving the tourism sector of the country by 2023. The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said that the onset of the tourist season will support the government’s objective.

The NTB expects that the number of tourists would touch 600,000 by the end of this year. The Director of NTB, Mani Raj Lamichhane said that the board is hopeful about attaining this number with two months of the tourism season still left. He said that the development in tourist arrival in the month of October is 72 percent compared to 2019. In October 2019, overall 1,23,267 tourists visited Nepal.

The month of November is also the best spell for Nepal tourism. Tourist number is expected to scale this month as well.

Lamichhane said that even though the arrivals might decline next month, i.e. December, the number of total tourists is predictable to reach 600,000 by the end of this year.

Nepal government has expected the figure to be 500,000; however,NTB expects a higher figure of 650,000. If there are no problems during the months of November and December, the board’s objective will be achieved by a great margin.
