In 2020, the Netherlands is all set to rebrand itself and drop ‘Holland’ as nickname, the two names are used interchangeably to describe the northern European country. Holland is a region of the Netherlands.

From all marketing materials and literature from the month of January onwards the Netherlands will officially drop ‘Holland’ and hence the country will only be referred to be its official name.

According to reports the rebrand amounted €200,000 and is a part of the wider relaunch of the country’s image.

The country intends to host the Eurovision Song Contest and participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the rebranding comes before that.

In favours of the letters NL the orange tulip logo has been axed and was unveiled last month by Dutch trade minister Sigrid Kaag.

The Dutch cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague is included in Holland which is a region of the Netherlands.

there will be more focus on sustainable tourism in the new strategy by looking at the longer-stay visitors to the cities beyond the capital Amsterdam.

Over the next decade the country’s tourism number are anticipated to grow from 19 million to 29 million and the country’s authorities are not finding it to be a good thing.

The country’s tourist board mentioned in a strategy document which laid down the plan for its coming decade that to control the visitor flow and leverage the opportunities tourism brings with it they must act now. It is time for destination management rather than destination promotion.

Overtourism is a concern in Amsterdam and it receives around 17 million visitors a year as compared to just 1 million residents.

Untourist Amsterdam is a group that has been set up as a part of the initiative that also includes marrying an Amsterdammer which will bring the local and visitors together.
