New murals adorn Port Miami terminal of Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ new Port Miami terminal now features a giant piece of brand-new artwork by Brasilian painter Ernesto Kunde.

The multi-story work of art is inspired by Miami’s world-famous mangroves and is visible to all passengers Norwegian Cruise Line’s 2021 built cruise terminal at Port Miami.

The company held a content Call to Artist in collaboration with The Nader Museum. Artists from Southern Florida had to submit their original artwork to be considered for a massive mural.



Every year, the contest resets and a new mural sis chosen. The initiative is taken as to allow Norwegian cruise Line Holdings and The Nader Museum support artists from Southern Florida who participate in the contest.

Kunde becomes the first winner of the contest, securing a 10-day, $100,000 artist residency at the Artist Loft on Oceania Cruises and the honor of having his work displayed at the terminal for a year.


The artists said that the opportunity ahs provided him a chance to share his vision with the patrons of art across the world. He feels honoured that his artwork featured on such a stunning canvas.



Kunde also added that being grown up amidst the picture perfect landscapes of Brasil, nature has always played an important role in his work. On the other hand, South Florida is also home to stunning wildlife which inspired him to capture its beauty in his canvas.



Port Miami terminal is over 166,000 square feet, and can accommodate ships of up to 5,000 passengers. Recently, the building became the world’s first cruise terminal to earn LEED Gold v4 Certification.

The structure’s design was inspired by the Fibonacci nautilus, with a spiraled and multi-level façade, providing vast views of the water.

Gary Nader, founder of The Nader Museum and co-creator of the Call to Artists contest, said that promoting and encouraging local artists should be a priority of every one in their community.


He also added that art is what brings them together and what will bring important tourism to Miami which is their beloved city.

He considers it as a significant award. He also, congratulated NCLH for not only making this initiative available to artists, but for providing enjoyment to the millions of people that visit them.

Details on the second annual Call to Artists will be announced later this year.
