Many railway stations under the Pune division would soon be capable of generating solar power.
One of the railway station officials mentioned that the ministry of railways is planning to launch solar panels at various railway stations. The central railway has been offered 9.2MW of solar power.
Out of this, 1.115MW would be generated in the Pune division and the authorities are optimistic that the power generation would commence by early next year.
Sources from the railway mentioned that solar panels would be installed on the overhead sheds of platform number 4, 5 and 6 of the Pune station.
And this would augment the existing capacity of the station.
The official said that the existent panels were all established in October last year above the reservation building of the station. The electricity generated by these panels actually are used to power the fans, lights, etc. on the station premises, as mentioned by the official.
Different agencies have been identified for all the divisions where the panels would be set up.
Another senior official with the technical department mentioned that Mytrah Energy India Private Limited had been selected for setting up the solar panels in the Pune division.
The agency would be installing the infrastructure for solar power generation in different stations across the division.
They would make sure that steady power generation is enabled and the railways purchase it from them according to the agreement, as declared by the senior official.
The official went on to add that Pimpri, Karad Chinchwad, Akurdi, Dehu Road, Malauli, Koregaon, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Miraz, Khedgaon and Loni are a few of the stations were such infrastructure for solar power generation would be installed.
