In the wake of Covid-19 leading to the closure of borders, New Zealand had a wonderful opportunity to re-emerge on the global stage as a first-class destination, where sustainability remained at the forefront. Now, with the reopening of the borders, the reorganizing appears like a touch up. Change looks like it is still coming, and it may just lead to tinkering rather than real alteration.
During the beginning of the pandemic, the NZ Government assured of a major consideration regarding how tourism functioned in New Zealand after mounting aggravation with congestion and issues concerning sustainability. The Tourism Minister during that time, Kelvin Davis, said that they have a chance to think again about the complete way that they can design tourism.
A task force was set up and was paid $755,000. The task force delivered an interim report – forthrightly mentioning the things evident. The final report never came up since Stuart Nash, the new Tourism Minister halted it.
Nevertheless, Nash is a lot more accomplished in tourism compared to his precursor; but New Zealand is yet to perceive any innovative ideas come into effect in reality. And in the intervening time, the tourism segment is moving forward to a familiar zone, which is business as anticipated.
In Singapore, one gets fined for littering. New Zealand needs to bring in similar measures and send the same message to every tourist.
