Several venues, hotels, and event service providers from across North East England recently came together to launch a new campaign titled “ItsTyneToMeetAgain” to help support the recovery of the business events industry within the region with the aim of engaging and inspiring audiences, and to build confidence to encourage organisers to start planning again. The campaign has been organised by NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau.

The campaign was introduced following the Government’s allowance to restart business events October 1. The NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau is encouraging partners and stakeholders to support the campaign organised for event planners, agents and professional conference organisers. The grassroots social media led campaign focuses on employees in the sector creating video and photography via their smartphones to promote events spaces, their employees and the measures that have been undertaken to ensure staff and visitor safety.

All the businesses taking part in the campaign, including Newcastle and Northumbria Universities, Newcastle United Football Club, LNER and Newcastle Castle have gained the VisitBritain “We’re Good To Go” industry accreditation, which demonstrates that they have already taken measures to be COVID-19 secure.  Paul Szomoru, Director of Business Events, NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau said in a statement that similar to much of the tourism economy, business events have been completely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He mentioned that as the industry has received the green light for October, it is highly essential for individuals to work together in order to build confidence with event organisers, and to show them that venues and support service providers in NewcastleGateshead and North East England are ready to welcome them back and to host brilliant events in a safe environment.  He shared that it is an amazing feeling to witness the business events community coming together to show solidarity and to create the content for the campaign. He also informed that the campaign has been launched with no budget, with most of the content created and edited on smartphones by frontline workers.

Lisa Crocker, General Manager, Staybridge Suites and co-chair of the North East Hotels Association, added that hotels and venues across North East England rely on business events. She shared that the organisers love hosting meetings, conferences and events as well as welcoming business travellers from across the country and the world. She mentioned that “ItsTyneToMeetAgain” is a wonderful initiative and opportunity for the business community to come together and do something proactive and said the community is stronger collectively than on its own.
