No appropriate policy support for tapping immense prospect in Bangladesh tourism

Prominent experts of the Bangladesh government stated during a workshop that the country’s government is unable to provide an appropriate policy support for making the best use of the immense prospect that Bangladesh tourism can offer.


The officials said that there are many limitations and bureaucratic bottlenecks in the tourism sector, as a result of which Bangladesh is not becoming successful in tourism and not getting the recognition that it deserves in tourism prospects akin to other countries.


The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh organized the workshop on the role of tourism in Bangladesh’s blue economy. This workshop was hosted at the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation on May 29 2022.


Rear Admiral (retired) Khurshed Alam, the secretary to the maritime affairs unit of foreign ministry said that the Bangladesh government is unable to provide policy support for furthering the tourism sector, in the event of representing his essential paper.


Alam cited examples of bureaucratic problems in the tourism sector. 17 approvals from different ministries and sections of the country were required for getting a nod for a cruise ship for traveling to Bangladesh from Sri Lanka in the year 2017.


Khurshed Alam mentioned that not a single cruise ship came to visit Bangladesh since 2017, following that incident.
Mahbub Hossain, the senior secretary with the power, energy and mineral resources ministry posed a question in his speech, and askedif Bangladesh is a tourism-friendly nation.
