The Indian travelers back in 2018 had spent more than Rs 6.5 trillion — $9.4 billion.

The American Express Travel: Global Travel Trends Report, previous to 2022 had shown an indication that Indian travellers have been interested to take on the new normal and majority of them have by now restarted with their travel plans in terms of domestic as well as international.

A study by Pahle India Foundation observed that many countries are tourism dependent for their financial growth. Tourism directly accounts for 39.6 per cent of the total GDP of Maldives. In Cambodia, the figure is 14.1 per cent. In Vietnam, the figure is 9.3 per cent. Tourism accounts for 3.7 per cent of its overall economy in the UK and 2.6 per cent in case of the economy of the USA. With many other sectors, the tourism industry has powerful interlinkages including aviation, logistics, hospitality, handicraft among many others.

In the pre-Covid-19 phase, as per McKinsey report, China accounted for over 27 per cent of 2019 receipts of tourism. However, keeping in mind the ongoing restrictions of Covid 19 in China, the Chinese visitors and their road of return on the international tourism map will not be anytime soon.

Now, more and more countries therefore are depending on Indian tourists. Large number of Indian travelers, during the Covid restrictions, had visited Maldives, enhancing its tourism based economy, said a senior executive of MakeMyTrip.
