Post-Brexit, the significance of British tourists to the travel and tourism economy of EU has been fortified after Portugal turning into first EU nation to fast-track UK travellers turning up at its airports.

The e-gates will be opened by Portugal to all British travellers, helping them to keep away from long queues when they travel to the southern European country. For Britons, the passport e-lanes have been set up in Faro, Lisbon and Porto in mainland Portugal and at Funchal in Madeira.

Portugal by opening their e-gates to British travellers is sending a message that at the border, it doesn’t mean to give more importance to EU tourists defying Brexit rules.

New travel rules since 31st January 2020 have been in place as the UK is no longer part of the EU. This means British passports need to be checked manually, instead of electronically.
