Oakland Airport Prepares for 500,000 Passengers and Exciting Holiday Festivities in December: Know More

Friday, December 13, 2024

Oakland International Airport (OAK) is preparing for a bustling holiday season, with over 500,000 passengers expected to travel through its terminals from Friday, December 20, to Monday, January 6. The peak travel days are projected to be Friday, December 20, and Friday, December 27, as travelers flock to and from the Bay Area.

To make the holiday travel experience more festive, OAK is offering a range of seasonal amenities, including live music performances, a gift-wrapping station, and eye-catching holiday decorations throughout the terminals. These festive touches are designed to spread holiday cheer and enhance the airport experience for travelers.

Whether you’re departing for a winter getaway or returning home for the holidays, Oakland Airport is ready to welcome you with festive spirit and a smooth travel experience.

“Our terminals are fully decked out in holiday décor and we look forward to welcoming holiday travelers through the new year,” says Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon. “We hope that passengers enjoy the return of our gift-wrapping station as well as performances by local Bay Area musicians.”

Oakland Airport Offers Holiday Cheer with Free Gift-Wrapping and Live Music

This December, Oakland Airport is making holiday travel even more festive. On December 19, 20, and 23, a free gift-wrapping station will be available in the connector area between Terminals 1 and 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Passengers are encouraged to use this service to ensure their gifts are ready for the season, though wrapped gifts should be carried with caution, as they may be opened during security screenings. Along with gift-wrapping, airport staff will be handing out free candy and popcorn to travelers stopping by the station.

To further spread holiday cheer, local musicians will perform at the terminal connector through January 3 as part of the OAK Tunes in the Terminal program. Musicians interested in participating can learn more on the airport’s website.

For those driving to the airport, parking reservations are strongly recommended. New customers can secure parking as low as $14 per day by booking in advance at book.iflyoak.com. Early booking guarantees a spot, as non-reservation parking is limited. All parking lots are within walking distance of the terminals, and visitors are advised to check for parking updates on the OAK website.

This year, OAK has also introduced two new dining options: Cancun Sabor Mexicano and A16 Pizza in Terminal 1. Additionally, renovations in Terminal 1, including check-in counters and restrooms, will continue through the holiday season with minimal disruption to passengers.

To make travel even smoother, passengers can save time by checking in online before arriving at the airport.
