Odisha: Devkund in Mayurbhanj district to be developed as major tourism site

VK Pandian, Secretary to CM (5T) visited Devkund in Mayurbhanj district yesterday as per the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He was accompanied by Tourism department ACS Surendra Kumar.


During the 5T Secretary’s visit to the district, Mayurbhanj Collector Vineet Bhardwaj and other district administration officials were also present.


Pandian addressed the development of Devkund as a significant tourism destination with officials and the local population. He then requested that the district administration speak with all stakeholders and submit a plan for redevelopment to the Tourism Department.


Notably, the state government is redeveloping significant heritage tourism sites in the state as part of its 5T transformation initiative.


Pandian then went to Bhimkund and interacted with both tourists and locals. He directed the Tourism Department and the district administration to develop a plan for infrastructure improvements and tourist facilities. He also underlined the importance of launching diverse tourism activities.


He next went to Khiching in Sukruli Block and visited the Maa Khichakeshwari Temple, where he engaged with Sevayats and other stakeholders to get their feedback on different elements of the temple’s and museum’s development. Based on the discussion, the Tourist Department and the local administration would produce a redevelopment proposal.


He next went to Jashipur, where he saw the proposed Khairi-Bhandhan Irrigation Project. The project will provide irrigation to 9,400 hectares of land in Jashipur, Sukruli and Raruan Blocks.


He then went to Pandit Raghunath Murmu’s Samadhi at Dandbose, Rairangpur, and talked with members of the Santhal caste. He promised them that the site would be developed in accordance with the wishes of the locals. He also promised them that their other demands will be considered positively by the administration.


Next, he went to Bada Bandha in Rairangpur Municipality to assess the development work that is being done there. He requested that Municipality authorities offer a detailed proposal for the pond’s future development.


In the evening, college students from Rairangpur and Karanjia subdivisions, as well as people’s representatives, convened and discussed numerous topics.


The 5T Secretary requested that the district administration and the relevant agencies submit recommendations for the ongoing development of these locations and projects as soon as possible.
