The Covid-19 pandemic has harshly affected the air and rail transport, and thus, the Odisha state tourism department has thought about attracting domestic tourists to the state via roadways. The Odisha tourism department would launch a campaign under the banner of ‘road trip to and through Odisha’ if the COVID situation becomes better October.

“We will target some major cities of our bordering states—West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh—and invite tourists to Odisha by roads from Kolkata, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bilaspur, Raipur and Visakhapatnam. Tourism department will float attractive packages of the proposed road trips,” said Odisha tourism secretary Vishal Dev.
The proposed campaign, ‘road trip to and through Odisha’ may be launched in October if the situation improves and the current closing of the interstate border areas is lifted.

“Assuming that the Covid situation improves in the next few weeks, the flights and trains to Odisha may resume. But tourists may hesitate to take air and rail travels anytime soon. So we conceptualized the road trip to capture the domestic tourist market of our neighboring states,” Dev said.
The Odisha tourism department will arrange sightseeing and accommodation for road-trip travelers. “We will also arrange hospitality for them in our wayside amenities, if located on their routes,” Dev said. The hotels in Odisha are currently offering services in a limited manner.

The Odisha department will also hold virtual road shows since actual road shows are difficult now due to the pandemic.
