The airline, acclaimed for its contributions to making Muscat a top travel destination in the Middle East, supports regional commerce, industry, and tourism with its young, modern fleet. These items are now encased in eco-friendly paper-based bands, branding a sleek new look while reducing plastic waste. This change is projected to cut down plastic usage by approximately 21.6 tonnes annually. Guided by a team of in-house experts and strengthened through partnerships, Oman Air’s dedication to reducing single-use plastics onboard marks a critical step in its ongoing environmental stewardship efforts.

Oman Air has significantly reduced its plastic consumption onboard by removing plastic cutlery sleeves and halving the use of plastic bottles and cuplets on some flights over recent years. The airline has further enhanced its environmental initiatives by replacing 80% of its inflight service carts with lighter versions, significantly improving fuel efficiency.

The airline has also revamped the packaging for Economy Class earphones, swapping single-use plastic PET foil for recyclable Kraft paper envelopes in collaboration with Linstol, a leader in eco-friendly in-flight products. This change is projected to prevent 6.48 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually, equivalent to saving approximately 110 trees or conserving 207,360 liters of water.
These initiatives exemplify Oman Air’s commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of air travel while maintaining comfort and convenience for its passengers. The airline continues to explore innovative environmental solutions across its operations, supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals and aligning with Oman’s national sustainability objectives.
Oman Air has also made strides in sustainability by saving 21.6 tonnes of plastic last year through eco-friendlier packaging for blankets and mattresses in premium cabins and optimizing plastic and water use. The airline is actively involved in developing Sustainable Aviation Fuels and other emissions reduction initiatives as part of Oman’s strategy to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050.
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Oman Air will participate in the upcoming Oman Sustainability Week. This event will feature an exhibition of the latest sustainable technologies and initiatives, a conference to foster global and local collaboration, a leadership summit, and site visits to leading sustainability projects in Oman. The week will also include the OSW Awards on March 13, recognizing significant contributions to sustainability.
