Oman Strengthens Ties with China through New Tourism Initiatives and Direct Flight, Get the Details Here

Published on November 29, 2025

With the aim of promoting the travel potential of the Sultanate of Oman, Oman will begin conducting promotional workshops in major metropolitan areas in the People’s Republic of China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. This will improve Oman’s position in Asia’s and particularly in China’s travel sector. Oman’s promotional activities will coincide with the commencement of one more direct flight route linking Beijing and Muscat, which is expected to enhance air travel and the movement of tourists between the two countries.

Oman’s Strategic Tourism Outreach to China

The promotional workshops, spearheaded by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, are set to provide a specialized platform for tourism companies from Oman to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and sustainable tourism offerings. Aimed at enhancing cooperation with Chinese tourism professionals, the workshops will emphasize Oman’s unique selling points as a destination, such as its historical landmarks, diverse landscapes, and commitment to sustainable tourism practices.

The delegation from Oman, led by Azzan Qassim Al Busaidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, includes 22 representatives from prominent Omani tourism institutions. These workshops will provide a rare opportunity for Oman’s tourism sector to directly engage with Chinese travel companies, hotel establishments, and tourism operators to develop a deeper understanding of market needs and preferences.

Strengthening Air Connectivity with a New Beijing-Muscat Flight

One of the key highlights of Oman’s promotional efforts is the launch of a direct flight route from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Muscat, scheduled to begin operations shortly. The new route, introduced in cooperation with Oman Airports and Eastern Airlines, is expected to significantly ease travel between the two countries, offering more convenience for Chinese tourists planning to visit Oman.

This move is a critical part of Oman’s broader strategy to strengthen air connectivity and attract more international visitors, particularly from China, a rapidly growing market for international tourism. With direct flights, travelers will have better access to Oman’s diverse tourism offerings, from luxury resorts to desert experiences and cultural exploration.

By enhancing connectivity, Oman is not only aiming to increase visitor numbers but also improve the overall travel experience for tourists. The direct flight route is seen as an essential step towards fostering deeper cultural and business ties between Oman and China, facilitating tourism exchanges and expanding economic opportunities for both countries.

Promoting Oman’s Unique Tourism Offerings to Chinese Tourists

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is also emphasizing Oman’s natural beauty and cultural diversity, which make it an ideal destination for Chinese travelers seeking unique experiences. Oman’s rich geographical and cultural diversity offers visitors a chance to explore a range of environments, from its pristine beaches along the Arabian Sea to its rugged mountains and vast deserts.

According to Haitham Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director-General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, China’s tourism market is one of the world’s most promising. Known for its high-spending tourists, Chinese travelers are increasingly seeking destinations that offer a mix of nature, culture, and authentic experiences. Oman, with its ancient forts, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and world-class luxury resorts, is well-positioned to appeal to this growing segment.

In particular, Oman’s emphasis on sustainable tourism and eco-friendly travel options has resonated with Chinese tourists who are increasingly prioritizing responsible travel choices. Oman’s commitment to preserving its natural heritage while offering travelers high-quality services makes it an attractive destination for middle- and high-income Chinese tourists.

Strategic Digital Marketing to Engage Chinese Tourists

To complement the physical workshops, Oman has also made significant strides in digital marketing. This year, the Ministry appointed Dragon Trail, a digital marketing company specializing in the Chinese tourism market, as its official representative. Dragon Trail has been working to implement a range of online campaigns through popular Chinese platforms, such as WeChat, Weibo, and Baidu, to increase awareness of Oman as a travel destination.

Dragon Trail is also helping to build stronger relationships with Chinese travel agents and tour operators, providing valuable insights into the preferences and behaviors of Chinese tourists. By leveraging digital platforms and influencer partnerships, Oman is reaching a broader audience and ensuring that its tourism offerings are highlighted to Chinese travelers in an engaging and effective manner.

In addition, Dragon Trail has been organizing familiarization trips for Chinese media and influencers, allowing them to experience Oman’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and hospitality firsthand. These efforts are helping to generate buzz around Oman and attract more visitors from China, which is expected to be one of the fastest-growing sources of international tourists for the Sultanate.

Increasing Awareness and Building Strategic Partnerships

The promotional workshops and strategic partnerships aim to position Oman as a go-to destination for Chinese tourists seeking both adventure and cultural immersion. Through these efforts, Oman seeks to differentiate itself from other regional destinations by offering a combination of rich history, stunning landscapes, and a welcoming atmosphere that appeals to Chinese travelers.

Moreover, these efforts align with Oman’s Vision 2040, which outlines the country’s long-term goals to diversify its economy, promote sustainable development, and create a vibrant tourism sector. As Oman continues to develop its tourism infrastructure and enhance its reputation as a sustainable and cultural destination, it is positioning itself as a key player in the global tourism market.

A Bright Future for Oman-China Tourism Relations

Oman’s expanding tourism prospects in China continue to be enhanced with promotional workshops, tailored advertising, and focusing on digital marketing as Oman continues to sustain and strategically open routes to gain and increase tourism from China. Oman’s focus on authentic cultural experiences and sustainability will draw many tourists from China. With strong government support, Oman differs from other countries in the Middle East. With prospects Oman continues to focus on, tourism China looks very promising. China will be the top choice in the Middle East for Oman.
