Oman’s destinations were highlighted on World Tourism Day

On Tuesday, the sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, observed the World Tourism Day by hosting innumerable events along with activities targeted at improving Oman’s status as a distinct tourist destination.


The World Tourism Day of this year is being marked under the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism’. The United Nations World Tourism Organization selected the catchphrase after considering the situation of the pandemic and the global financial troubles.


With aiming on rousing the tourism movement in different governorates of the sultanate, MHT is looking to attain the targets within Oman Vision 2040, which intends to add to the contribution of tourism to the 2021 GDP from 2.4 per cent to 5 per cent by 2030, and taking it to 10 per cent by 2040.


The Undersecretary for Tourism in the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, H E Azzan bin Qassim al Busaidi, said that official data highlights a growth of 39.3 per cent in terms of the number of Omanis working in hospitality sector – from 3,752 in 2020 to 5,230 in 2021.


Talking about the festivity of the sultanate on World Tourism Day, he said that the ministry, together with many partners, will put in order the Oman Tourism Meet, on September 27 and 28.


In adventure tourism, the meet is set to initiate the best practices; the initiatives have been taken on by Oman in this field.
