Members of the local tourism industry are calling for clear messaging from the federal government to get more people travelling within Canada.

The group, consisting of local tourism operators and stakeholders, gathered at Mallard Cottage in QuidiVidi Village with a clear message: People’s mindsets towards travelling need to be changed.

They are calling for messaging from the federal government that it is safe to travel within Canada.

As well, they would like to see an incentive program to encourage people from across the country to get moving again because this province’s small population cannot support its tourism industry.

Todd Perrin of Mallard Cottage says the urgency of the message is “paramount.”

He explains that the peak of the province’s tourism season is late July to early August, and the only solution to their issues is for people to start travelling again, and “to turn the corner from being fearful of COVID” and to start living with COVID.
