Pahang government talks with airlines to revive Kuantan route

The Pahang government has started discussing with numerous airline companies to revitalize its function in and out of the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport to increase arrival of tourists.


Leong Yu Man, the Chairman, State Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee, said that before pandemic, Firefly Air Asia, Malindo Air and other low-cost carriers, from the time they were rebranded as Batik Air, used to ply the Kuala Lumpur- Kuantan route.


At present, for the Kuala Lumpur- Kuantan route, they only have Malaysia Airlines and the low-cost airline, Scoot Air, Singapore, is servicing the Singapore-Kuantan route, and vice-versa. Discussions have started with many airlines companies of Malaysia and they are hoping for development.


She informed the reporters that the Pahang government is trying their best to get return the airlines and revitalize the routes which they once served. They know that some holdups could happen by the airline companies as they are flying the popular and commercial routes.


On Nov 30th, 2022, Scoot resumed flights to Kuantan after a two-year pause due to the COVID. On Feb, operations were stopped for aircraft repairs and maintenance before starting it once again today.


On Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – the flights which are operating three times a week will leave from Changi Airport.


Leong said that SKS Airways is mulling introducing the LTSAS- Pulau Tioman route as well in the future.
