In the year 2016, about six million foreign tourists had arrived in Philippines crossing the 5.9 million target that was established by the DOT (Department of Tourism) for the year. This has went on to prove that this region is well on its to being developed as a favorable tourist destination.
Cesar Villanueva who is the officer-in-charge of the Tourism Promotions Board of the DOT said that last year the DOT was aiming at 5.9 million foreign tourist arrivals and Philippines has surpassed this target already. He had mentioned this at a press conference with the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA).
President of PTAA, Maria Michelle Reyes-Victoria was quite optimistic that even this year Philippines would be capable of achieving the high target.
She said that Philippines have been welcoming several inbound tourists in the Philippines since they were the host of Asean @50. Therefore, it would end up generating inbound tourists in this country. She added that they would also host the beauty pageant of Miss Universe.
The DOT said that Korea had maintained the prestigious position of the leading visitor spending market with estimated receipts amounting to P5.06 billion for September. The accumulated spending amounted to about P1.61 billion.
The visitors from Japan had ended up spending about P1.46 billion in 2016.
On the other hand, Canada had claimed the fourth position with receipts that amounted to P732.05 million. China had completed the top five spending markets with an estimated expenditure of P654.97 million.
The PTAA also said that about 10 to 12 visitors who would be attending the 24th Travel Expo (TTE) would witness a great increase in travel offers that were available to them.
Victoria said that the TTE that is considered the biggest annual travel event of the country would be featuring exotic locales and also many leisure activities.
The TTE has placed a spotlight on Philippines as one of the most favored tourist destinations that has the potential to host a range of international events.
