The Philippines gets recognized by the international travel community continuously as it was named as the leading dive and beach destination of Asia at the 27th World Travel Awards.
Besides grabbing the two awards, the DOT was also announced as 2020’s primary tourist board in Asia, keeping 11 nominated countries behind.
To quote Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, “We are truly honored and thankful for the accolades given to the Philippines at the 2020 World Travel Awards Asia. These recognitions are certainly an inspiration to the industry as we safely and gradually reopen our destinations for tourism. These would not be possible without the combined efforts from our tourism stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies and our fellow Filipinos who have tirelessly promoted our country’s attractions, products and culture.”
Dive tourism is identified by the DOT as one of the main areas in the NTDP 2016-2022 that can affect industry growth positively in regard to the rising count in visitors, extended stay, higher tourism revenue, among many others.
For the fourth time, Philippines’ won Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and second time as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, following nominations for categories several times since 2006.
This is the second time for the DOT to grab Asia’s Leading Tourist Board, contrastingly.
Besides its wins in the Asia categories, the Philippines and the DOT still has an opportunity to bag additional awards in the World category as it has received five nominations.
Among these are the Leading Beach Destination of the world and Leading Dive Destination for the Philippines, Leading Island Destination for Siargao and World’s Leading Tourist Attraction for Intramuros.
