Phuket expecting to witness up to 5 million foreign tourists this year

The Phuket Tourism and Sports Office has said that the province is expecting to witness up to 5 million foreign tourists in 2022, which is due to Thailand’s easing of entry restraints, accounting for 50% of arrivals before the pandemic.


RachadapornOin, the head of Phuket’s Tourism and Sports Office said that since the annulment of the Test & Go programme on May 1, Phuket has witnessed 2,000 to 3,000 arrivals every day.


The tourism number is expected to go up to 10,000 per day during the peak tourism season in the fourth quarter of the year.


Rachadapornsaid that they expect that all through this year, roughly 5 million foreign tourists will visit Phuket. This is a retrieval of 50 per cent compared to the times before the pandemic, when there were 10 million foreign visitors every year in Phuket.


From May 1-17, in Phuket, there were total arrivals of 45,806 by means of 413 international flights. The provincial Tourism and Sports Office projected that at least 200,000 foreign tourists will be coming to Phuket all through May.


The rainy season isa low season for Thailand’s tourism. Phuket is now expecting to get tourists from the Middle East and India. Rachadaporn saidthat tourists from these markets like to travel during the monsoons. The official said that in the fourth quarter, which is the peak season for Phuket, around 10,000 foreign tourists per day are expected.
