By 2022 the P& O Cruises and Cunard have pledged to quit the usage of single-use plastic and the Carnival UK president Josh Weinstein stated that the operator’s ships already have strict rules in place over recycling of the plastic
He further mentioned that more could be done and they were in discussions with their suppliers to try to influence the removal of single use plastic in products such as straws, water bottles and food packaging wherever possible, as well as reviewing wider sourcing strategy of the most environmentally friendly products across the board.
As an ocean-going cruise line, programmes like the Blue Planet was positive on the impact plastic can have on seas and it is their responsibility to take action now.
However, there might be many hurdles along the way , ocean is a fundamental part of their business but its preservation along with the surrounding shores is critical for the company’s future and that of future generations.
It is a duty to respect and protect it as part of our wider environmental protection.
He mentioned that the second XL class ship for P&O Cruises is fully powered by LNG and one of the most environmentally advanced ships in the world.
The new Cunard ship will be launched in 2022 aligning with their intention of their ongoing quest for environmental protection.
