P&O Cruises has cancelled all international cruises on Arcadia, Aurora, Azura and Ventura until the end of August. Trips outside of the U.K. on Britannia and Iona have also been cancelled until the end of September. The cruise line will instead offer a series of short break and week-long U.K. cruises this summer. The ex-UK trips will also go on sale later in March. Paul Ludlow, President, P&O Cruises said that the company is in very close contact with the U.K. government and associated bodies as it monitors the latest situation and guidance on travel.
He mentioned that significant logistical task to resume operations will begin from the moment travel restrictions are lifted but it will take some time for the first ship to return to service, followed by the phased return of the remaining fleet. He shared that following recent government announcements and the vaccine programmes across the globe, a sense of reassurance and hope can be felt that the current lockdown period in the U.K. will come to an end.
He added that while holidays in the U.K. will be the first to become a reality a gradual return of international travel will be seen. He said the company firstly wants guests to be able to enjoy a proper summer holiday at sea with the best in relaxation, entertainment and dining choice. He informed that summer sailings will leave from the home port in Southampton and sail around U.K .coastal waters enjoying the summer sunshine.
It was also mentioned that more details of dates, prices and the experience on board will be announced later this month, and will have the flexibility so guests can book with confidence. He even shared that the cruise line cannot wait to welcome everyone back on board with the protection of effective protocols to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all crew and guests and hopes that life can slowly return to some semblance of previous normality as hospitality opens up and summer holidays can be booked with confidence.
