World Travel AwardsPortugal was ranked ‘World’s Leading Destination’, for the second time at the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2018 organized in Lisbon
In a declaration, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, stated that it was “extremely proud to receive this distinction again.”
At the awards ceremony, which was organized for the first time on national territory, Portugal was illustrious as it won 16 prizes, a record, after the seven trophies last year and four of 2016. In June 2018, Portugal was re-elected as the Best Tourist Destination of Europe.
Madeira ‘World’s Leading Island Destination’;Turismo de Portugal was named ‘World’s Leading Tourist Board’; Lisbon was ranked the Leading City Destination and City Break Destination of the world. The visitportugal.com portal repeated the 2017 attainment by being selected as the Best Official Tourism Website in the World.
Other top prize winners were – TAP Air Portugal, the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, Olissippo Lapa Palace, The Vine Hotel, Vila Joya and the Conrad Algarve.
Portugal defeated 16 competitors namely South Africa, Brazil, Spain, USA, Greece, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, New Zealand, Kenya, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
