Portugal extends its ban on the non-essential travelling such as tourism from South Africa, Brazil and Nepal, and travellers coming from these flights can only visit the country for essential purposes. The travellers from South Africa, Brazil and Nepal must undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival, either at home or in a place designated by the Portuguese health authorities.

In the recent 24 hours, the World Health Organisation has shown that 618 people have died in Brazil due to Coronavirus complications, and there are 27,804 positive cases. About 138 deaths and 12,222 positive cases are reported in South Africa, and 20 deaths and 1,728 positive cases in Nepal.

Similar restrictions are imposed on United Kingdom travellers, who must undergo quarantine restrictions upon arrival to the country. Those who present proof of vaccination certificates indicating the holder was vaccinated with one of the European Medicines Agency approved vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Janssen) at least 14 days before arrival are exempted from quarantine requirements.

However, the travellers from several third countries and administrative regions – such as Albania, the United States of America, Lebanon, the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Serbia and Taiwan – whose epidemiological situation is considered safe in line with Council Recommendation (EU) 2020/912 of June 30 2020, are allowed to enter Portugal for non-essential travelling.

However, this act has been criticized by the EU’s block executive, which insists that Germany should align its testing and quarantine requirements with European Union, hoping to facilitate travelling this summer by easing restrictions across all EU member states.

According to the latest restrictions put in place by German authorities, Portuguese travellers must undergo a 14-day quarantine and provide a filled-out register form before arrival. In addition, not older than 72 hours PCR COVID-19 negative test is required, a proof of full vaccination indicating that 14 days passed since the holder received the last shot of COVID-19 vaccine.  A recovery certificate that cannot be older than six months but must be older than 28 days can also be provided upon arrival.
