The hospitality sector in the coastal areas of Mangaluru district is witnessing a serious increase in tourist activity post-unlock 3.0. The hospitality sector has seen almost 40% increase in occupancy from 20% from Day One of the unlock 3.0, with beach houses and resorts being hot property now.
Most of the long lists of beach houses along the Mangaluru coastline are being considered by visitors as a workstation destination, combining business with pleasure, along with their families.
Yatish Baikampady, who owns a few beach guest houses, said that many of the beach houses in this region have been booked for this month. “We got to know of this when we inquired about other beach guest houses, after ours went full,” he said.
Our estimate is that barring a few days of July, all guesthouses have their rooms full this month,’’ Baikampady said that this is also due to tourists choosing to stay for longer durations. “Earlier, we used to get bookings for one or two nights. This time, it is double the minimum,” he said.
Oswald D’Silva, owning a heritage villa on the Iddya beach, said that enquiries are pouring in after unlock 3.0. BN Girish, Vice-President of The Ocean Pearl, said that the occupancy rate has gone up from 20% to 40% in just a day, which is a positive sign.
