Princess Cruises cancels international summer sailing from the U.K.

Princess Cruises has become the latest line to cancel plans for international sailing from the U.K. over the summer season. The Carnival-owned line has cancelled sailings from Southampton on Sky Princess, Regal Princess and Island Princess through to September 25. The news follows a similar decision undertaken by sister company P&O Cruises. Princess Cruises will instead launch a series of short U.K. cruises departing in late summer. Regal Princess and Sky Princess will offer short breaks and week-long holidays sailing from Southampton. The cruises are available to U.K. guests only and will go on sale later this month.

Tony Roberts, Vice President, Princess Cruises UK & Europe said in a statement that unfortunately the current ex-U.K. programme had to be cancelled through late September and mentioned that the company shares the disappointment over the cancelled cruises and appreciates the continued patience from loyal guests and travel agents. He said that recent announcements from the U.K. government on the roadmap to the end of lockdown have given everyone optimism that cruise line will be able to have a summer break. He stated that when restrictions are lifted, it is clear that holidays in the U.K. will be the first to restart before the gradual return of international travel and the company is eager to welcome guests back onboard as soon as it is safe to do so. He also shared that by offering a series of short U.K. breaks, the cruise line can provide guests with a relaxed holiday at sea so they can enjoy a much-needed getaway.

He continued that the company is also extremely appreciative of the unwavering support from trade partners and would like to thank them for their continued understanding and cooperation. He added that as the ships prepare to return to service, the company will remain in close contact with CLIA, the U.K. Government and associated bodies to monitor the latest travel guidance. Princess will transfer the commission earned by travel agents from the cancelled 2021 cruise to the new booking in 2022 that was paid in full.  More details of dates, itineraries and prices for the new UK cruises will be announced later this month.
