Prolonged Diwali weekend increasing travel demand among Indians

The prolonged weekend holiday of Diwali is increasing interest in travel among Indians with hospitality and tourism sector players witnessing a growth in demand among prospective travelers.

While domestic destinations like Goa, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Kerala remain perennial favorites, short haul international holidays to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have also come up as preferred spots for many travelers.

President & Country Head (Holidays, MICE, Visa) Rajeev Kale said that Diwali, Bhai Dooj and Govardhan Puja present an exciting extended weekend that is boosting the desire for travel among enthusiasts. Thomas Cook’s data specifies a strong recovery with the demand channel going up by more than three times for Diwali compared to last year.
