The proposed partnership of South African Tourism was reportedly worth UK£42.5 million over three years. It was anticipated that this week, it would be signed off by with the ministry of tourism. Also, featuring on the shirt sleeve of the Premier League club, matchday advertising and branding on interview backdrops was hoped to be a part of the partnership, with the fee a substantial development on the current deal of Spurs’ with Cinch.

However, in South Africa, reports of the deal drew a repercussion, given the president of the country, Cyril Ramaphosa, is at present weighing up calling a state of tragedy because of record power cuts and poverty rise. The tourism committee of South African parliament has now taken an oath to conclude the agreement, which would have kicked in from next season.

Tandi Mahambehlala, the chairperson of the committee said that this deal ends today, now, as there is everything incorrect about the deal itself. On this matter, there should be an investigation with immediate effect.

Her comments came after tourism minister Lindiwe Sisulu were provided any information of the deal, saying that she isn’t aware that any contract has been signed with Tottenham Hotspur. That would happen only after agreements from the Treasury, she added. She also mentioned that they do not have a deal, as far as government is concerned.
