The owners of Stellaris Casino and also San Juan Marriott Resort located in Puerto Rico are quite bullish about the future of this part of the world. They are planning therefore to open a second Marriott property on this island.
As of now, plans for the new-build, 190-room, $40 million hotel project had been declared last week at an event that was sponsored by XLD Group that is a Chinese company that owns the Marriott.
At this event, Jun Zhang, the chairman of XLD Investments mentioned that he feels that tourism is well on its way to bounce back quickly after Hurricane Maria had devastated the American territory on 20th September.
According to a local information portal in Puerto Rico the general manager of the hotel José González-Espinosa confirmed that the new resort would be constructed on the site that presently houses the tennis courts of Marriott.
This property is expected to break ground in early 2019.
He also went on to add that the hotel would be branded under the many flags of Marriott with an aim to differentiate the identities of the two hotels.

It is currently open and continues to be operational. The worst affected was the second tower of the hotel and its 123 cabana rooms that had ended up sustaining nearly $20 million in damages. The renovated rooms of the tower are expected to re-open by April or May of next year.
As the new hotel’s construction was announced, González-Espinosa also requested tourism officials to shift their inbound tourism marketing strategy.
The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) is presently promoting a campaign known as ‘Rebuild Days’.
It actually motivates tourists to be involved in assisting with different infrastructure upgrades. González-Espinosa feels that they need to create a strategy with the government and also the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association to bring back the leisure market.
