Northern Capital Gateway LLC (NCG), the operator of Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport Russia, has decided to adjust the operating hours of the airport. The Pulkovo airport will be open until 11 p.m. local time on April 10.

From April 11 to April 30, 2020, the airport will be handling flights daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (local time). The entrance to the passenger terminal will be open from 5.30 a.m. and check-in will begin at 6 a.m. In the evening, the entrance to the terminal will be closed at 11.30 p.m.

The decision comes in light of the coronavirus pandemic that has compelled governments across the world to enforce global travel restrictions and nationwide lockdowns. Aviation has been one of the worst-hit sectors by the COVID-19 outbreak. Airlines have massively reduced the number of flights in their programs due to decreased passenger demand. By operating with reduced hours, NCG will be able to optimize the airport’s resources.

NCG has already deployed a set of measures as a response to the COVID-19 virus. St. Petersburg airport has an emergency response center for joint work with airlines, state control bodies, local authorities on coronavirus matters. All aircraft arriving at Pulkovo from regions that are majorly affected by the COVID-19 virus is subjected to disinfection.

The terminal also has special markings at check-in counters and security checkpoints to ensure social distancing within passengers. The frequency and thoroughness of cleaning is intensified in all airport premises including elevators, check-in counters, information desks, inspection areas, offices and employee rooms. Steps and passenger buses are disinfected regularly.

In addition, the air in the terminal is purified using disinfecting units installed in the areas designated for passengers. The airport staff is informed about preventive measures and equipped with protective masks, gloves, antiseptic wipes, and gels. Airport’s first-aid station located on the second floor of the terminal operates 24/7 for those feeling unwell, including passengers, visitors, and staff of the airport.
