Punjab government finalizes plan for developing 30 places as cultural and tourism hubs

Punjab governmentThe Punjab government has finalized a plan for developing 30 places in the state as tourism and cultural hubs. The state’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said that places of significance in the state would be developed as world-class tourism spots and Rs. 590.97 crores would be spent for making Punjab a big player in the global tourism sector.

 
Sidhu said that projects under various schemes have been planned to develop these places as centres of excellence from the point of view of tourism. He said that the holy city of Amritsar would be the centre of attraction in terms of tourism as 11 out of the 30 places are in and around it.

 
These projects would be finished within a year and would comprise facilities like landscaping, restaurants, parking and toilets for the convenience of tourists.

 
Sidhu said that a project of Rs. 100 crores has been prepared under the Mughal Circuit, which aims at developing historical spots in the state connected with the Mughal rule. The total cost of the project is Rs. 590.97 crores, and after the completion of this project, another one worth Rs. 100 crores under the Maharaja Circuit, for cities associated with erstwhile princely states would be sent to the Union government.
