In all hotels, Qatar National Tourism Council together with the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), has introduced the best in class “Qatar Clean” program all over the country to encourage foreign visitors to choose their country for travel and welcoming them back.

This multi-phased, all-inclusive Qatar Clean program, which was been set up after a strong review of the best safety initiatives from world over, guarantees stringent safety standards in terms to hygiene and cleanliness in country’s all tourist attractions. In May, after the first round of testing, the program was rolled out and June this year for Phase 1 of Qatar’s reopening plan. Following review and constant development, now, it is being pulled out to other sectors as well, like restaurants and shopping malls, with best practices applied.

The first stage of the program was primarily targeted at safeguarding the hospitality workers as well as guests by creating standards for sterilization and disinfection, which all hotels must follow. The program conforms to the guidelines of the government on reducing virus spread and additionally complements independent steps being taken by hotels. Hotels meeting these requirements are certified “Qatar Clean”, making certain guests feel safe. Since its introduction, almost 100 hotels have been certified and more are under the scanner.

At present, Qatar is in the third phase of its four-phase reopening plan along with hotel facilities, shopping malls, and many health clubs and salons of the country reopening for business, by following the precautionary measures.

To quote Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, “We welcome the implementation of the Qatar Clean program and are pleased to cooperate with the National Tourism Council to provide a safe and healthy tourism experience for the residents of Qatar in all the country’s hotels. We will study the expansion of the initiative and its potential application in other sectors, in order to ensure our continued success in limiting the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and maintaining the health and well-being of the people of Qatar.”

To get a Qatar Clean certification, hotels should follow:

  1. Each hotel facility must employ a Qatar Clean Program Manager. He/She will be responsible for supervising employee training and overall compliance with program requirements.
  2. Hotels must sterilise their facilities daily, carry out regular and thorough cleaning, use disinfectant in all rooms, air conditioning systems, equipment, water tanks, toilets, and make sure to imply stringent sterilization of designated guest areas, particularly reception halls and lobbies, as part of the program.
  3. The use of elevators by multiple guests at the same time will be banned, with a maximum capacity of 30%.
  4. With a mission to decrease contact with guests, hotels have to take on mobile or other contactless procedures for check in and checkout, while optimizing spaces to preserve distance of at least two meters between individuals.
