The Western Railway is utilizing drones to survey the area with an aim to create an elevated deck that will permit commuters and vehicles to enter the station of Elphinstone Road.
Officials feel that the deck would help decongest the railway station.
This plan had gathered steam after 23 people died in a stampede at Elphinstone Road station on 29th September.
Furthermore railway minister Piyush Goyal had visited Parel last week and asked officials about the elevate deck. The Western Railways will submit the report to the Indian Railway Station Development Authority (IRSDA) within a month.
AK Gupta who is the general manager of Western Railways informed Goyal about the study during the latter’s visit to Parel station.
The elevated deck would extend up to Tulsi Pipe Road and work as an approach road to Elphinstone Road station. A senior western railway official mentioned that the complete report would be submitted within a month.
Officials have also been planning to revamp Wadala, Mumbai Central and Khar, according to an official who did not wish to be identified since the plans are yet to be finalized.
Officials from the Railway Board, Central and Western railways have been holding meetings to discuss the availability of railway land.
