Rajasthan becomes the first state to introduce astro tourism

Sky watchers can now have good times to expect! Rajasthan has become the first state to introduce the night sky astro tourism in its 33 districts at the same time! Jaipur, the capital of the state itself has four famous star gazing venues including Jantar-Mantar, Amber Fort, University of Maharaja and Jawahar Kala Kendra.


Rajasthan’s Department of Science and Technology Secretary,MugdhaSinha, , said that in additionto Rajasthan, the Bikaner House in New Delhi has been selected asan astro tourism hub as well, and a telescope will be set up for tourists, so that they can watch the night sky.


Sinha said that due topandemic, a stringent lockdown was in place, and hence, people were locked inside their houses althoughthere werefascinating astronomical events taking place in the sky.


Sinha added that they have organized the star gazing session at the secretariat and the officials are also quite enthusiastic regarding that. The decision to introduce it for the public was taken on January 21, 2021.


The idea was accepted by the CM of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot. On March 3, the CM announced launching Night Sky Astro Tourism in all 33 districts of the state.
