The Rajasthan tourism department is working on a new policy for creating new tourism experiences, capturing the beauty of rural Rajasthan and its people, culture and crafts and also for spreading the imprint of the sector.
In the draft of the Rajasthan Tourism Promotion Scheme circulated for inviting suggestions from various stakeholders, the department has put forth incentives, procedures and standards for setting up guest houses, agriculture tourism units, camping sites and caravan parks.
The senior officials of the department held consultation meetings with the industry to obtain insights and suggestions to the proposals mentioned in the draft.
Nishantjain, director, department of tourism said, “We will send the draft to various relevant departments for their inputs and suggestions. That’s why it will take some time to announce the final policy. But it will be ready very soon.”
Ranvijay Singh, joint secretary, Hotels and Restaurant Association of Rajasthan said, “The policy will play an important role to boost rural art and culture, crafts, while creating economic opportunities for people living in villages.” Singh said that the policy will help youths visiting cities for jobs and livelihood opportunities, find profitableoccupation in their own areas.
During the pandemic, rural tourism gained focus with people stuck in cities and towns looking for destinations far away from crowded places.
