For the first time in its 79-year history passenger numbers travelling through Dublin Airport surpassed 2 million for the month of January. About 2.1 passengers used the hub, in Jan. 19, which is a 5 per cent increase on last year. Dublin Airport has flights to almost 200 destinations in 43 countries, operated by 56 airlines.
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe grew by 8 per cent with more than 1 million people travelling to and from European locations. 745,000 people travelled on routes between Dublin and the UK, and 211,000 took transatlantic flights to North America. Other international traffic, in particular to destinations in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia also increased by 4 per cent, with 85,000 people traversing these routes.
Almost 6,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes last month, a 1 per cent increase year-on-year. Three new airlines – including TAP, Air Baltic and Sun Express, will also launch services from the Dublin airport in 2019. Dublin airport is the 11th busiest airport in the EU and will add 21 new routes and services this year to 14 short haul and seven long haul destinations. In 2018, Dublin Airport managed 31.5 million people in 2018.
