A record-breaking 20.5 lakh tourists, along with 3.65 lakh Amarnath pilgrims, visited Kashmir during the first eight months of this year. The scenic Valley has lured visitors from all over India till now.
After three decades, Kashmir is drawing a lot of tourists. Experts are of the opinion that the golden era of Kashmir tourism when it was a sought-after destination for visitors, has come back once again.
16.84 lakh tourists, comprising foreign visitors, have visited Kashmir till the end of August this year. Among them, 10,500 are foreigners.3.65 lakh Amarnath pilgrims have also traveled to Kashmir.
If these tourist numbers are added to the total number of visitors, the Valley has witnessed approximately 20.49 lakh visitors.
The 2 million tourists signify an unparalleled high for Kashmir and represents growth in the coming days. The Valley’s places of attraction like Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg along with all hotels and guesthouses in Srinagar witnessed 100 percent occupancy.
In Srinagar, the occupancy degree for houseboats ranged between 70 and 80 percent.
Tourists these days are now visiting Kashmir in unparalleled numbers, three years after New Delhi canceled the region’s special status.
After the pandemic, the tourism sector has recuperated brightly in recent times with up to 10,000 people, mostly from other areas of India, traveling on around 100 flights every day to Srinagar’s airport.
