Remco Steenbergen has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of Lufthansa and will be undertaking the positions starting January alongside a seat on the executive board. With the latest appointment, Lufthansa’s finance division will be re-established and include controlling and risk management, corporate finance, accounting and balance sheets, taxes, and purchasing, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to his latest appointment, Steenbergen served as the Chief Financial Officer of Barry Callebaut Group based in Zurich, Switzerland and was also previously associated with Philips and KPMG. Throughout his career, he has held a wide range of global leadership and financial management roles at numerous companies in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Belgium, Ireland, the United States and Switzerland.
Karl-Ludwig Kley, Chairman, Deutsche Lufthansa AG Supervisory Board said in a statement that with the appointment of Remco Steenbergen the company will have a distinguished financial expert with extensive experience in the capital markets as the new Lufthansa Group chief financial officer. He shared that Remco brings with him excellent financial expertise from various companies as well as industries and has also impressed the supervisory board with his personality.
He further added that in a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is having serious consequences for air travel, an internationally experienced and well-respected chief financial officer is more important than ever for Lufthansa Group for overcoming the present crisis as well as for the future when it wants to pay back government stabilisation funds.
