A local tourism chief has said that the tourism infrastructure of Rig-e Boland, an unproductive land located in Aran-Bidgol County, at central Isfahan province, is in urgent need to be developed. Mehdi Mashhadi explained on Tuesday that while keeping in mind its natural beauty and exclusive location, Rig-e Boland deserve a good growth of its tourism infrastructure.

For the tourists in recent years, traveling to the desert has become ever more popular option after the characteristics of tourism changed, the official added.

Until recently, many people opted for coastal areas and forests for exploring. But now, the desert is slowly turning as one of the most popular tourist destinations, he explained.

In Aran-Bidgol county, the Rig-e Boland desert near a salt lake, is believed to be Iran’s one of the best natural tourist attractions. It has been emblazoned on the national heritage list because of its eye-catching features, he noted.

Every year, more than 2.5 million people visit Rig-e Boland at the time of the high season. He stated that this makes it one of the most visited areas in the country,

He added that the popular Maranjab desert, located close by, Rig-e Boland still remains short of the right tourism infrastructure and services.

Rig-e Boland with an area of 168,000 hectares, roughly, is home to different types of dunes. The common formation of the dunes is mostly light sandy, while in some places, it is accompanied by gypsum and quartz particles.
