Riga Airport Sees Arrival of airBaltic’s New Airbus A220-300

Published on December 3, 2025

The latest addition to airBaltic’s Airbus A220-300 fleet has increased the airline’s operational strength and travel capacity. The 51st aircraft, newly delivered in December 2025, reinforces the carrier’s reliance on a single aircraft type for streamlined performance. This delivery also supports broader travel activity by adding more seating availability, improved cabin comfort and stronger operational consistency for passengers moving through Riga and beyond.

A Growing Fleet Supporting Passenger Movement

The newly arrived aircraft joined the fleet after landing in Riga on 1 December 2025. It became the second A220-300 received by the airline this year. With this addition, airBaltic continues to expand the scale of its single-type operation, which has been in place since 2020.
This approach has allowed the airline to develop a more efficient structure for scheduling and crew deployment. Maintenance needs have also become easier to manage through standardization, which helps create smoother travel operations for passengers.

Since the introduction of the A220-300, the fleet has carried more than 23 million passengers. Nearly 241,000 flights have been completed on the type, contributing to over 530,000 block hours. These milestones reflect the scale of traffic supported by the aircraft and its role in sustaining dependable travel links for many journeys.

A Broadening Landscape for Travelers

The expansion of a uniform fleet shapes a predictable travel environment for passengers. A consistent cabin layout allows travelers to form clear expectations before boarding. Reliable operations reduce disruptions and support smoother onward journeys.
These elements create a travel ecosystem where movement feels more structured, and each step of the journey benefits from a familiar setup. Passengers can plan more confidently, and the airline can maintain steady flow across its network.

Cabin Features That Improve the Travel Experience

The A220-300 cabin layout contributes meaningfully to passenger comfort. Wider seats provide more personal space, while larger windows offer better views throughout the flight. Additional overhead capacity supports travelers carrying more hand baggage, and the redesigned lavatories add convenience during long travel days.
These improvements enhance the onboard experience for passengers who rely on the airline for regional and continental travel connections.

A progressive roll out of Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi is also underway. The service is being introduced free of charge, allowing travelers to stay connected throughout their journey. This initiative increases convenience for business and leisure passengers who may want to stay online while in the air.

Environmental Performance Supporting Future Travel Demand

The A220-300 design helps maintain efficiency while lowering environmental impact. The aircraft generates less CO₂ output and significantly reduced NOx emissions compared to older aircraft. Its quieter performance also lessens noise exposure around operational areas.
These characteristics support a more sustainable travel pattern by decreasing the environmental footprint associated with regular flights. Travelers benefit from improved comfort, while communities near airports experience reduced noise levels. These efficiencies continue to shape airBaltic’s position as a carrier focused on modern and environmentally aware travel operations.

A Single-Type Fleet Strengthening Passenger Connectivity

By expanding its fleet with YL-BTA, airBaltic reinforces a strategy that has been refined since 2020. Operating one aircraft type simplifies many internal processes and supports more consistent travel schedules. Passengers benefit from predictable aircraft interiors, streamlined operations and improved reliability.
The latest aircraft strengthens the airline’s ability to support passenger flows during busy travel periods. With each new A220-300 delivered, the carrier secures additional capacity, improved comfort and greater efficiency for travelers moving through its network.
