Rs 70cr allotted for religious tourism in India

meghalayaA package of Rs 70 crore for development of places of worship spread across the state under the Swadesh Darshan scheme in Meghalaya was announced by the Union minister for tourism Alphons Joseph Kannanthanam.

 

A total number of 48 places of worship were allocated under the scheme and as per the Union Minister, projects under the scheme was prepared by a consultant, M/s Ernst and Young after appointment by the Union ministry of tourism.

 
The package was introduced ahead of the Assembly polls which is scheduled to be held next month.

 

Catholic’s Cathedral church at Laitumkhrah here, Nartiang Durga temple and Nartiang monoliths in Jaintia hills, Jaiaw Presbyterian Church, Balupada Baptist Convention Centre in Garo hills, Laban glass mosque and Gurudwara Sahib, besides other churches belonging to different Christian denominations, and temples across the state are the prominent places of worship.

 

The allotment will have the construction of multipurpose hall, parking,  road, landscaping, solar lights, stone benches as the project cost estimated in crores.

 

Most of these places will require  minor works like illumination, signage, toilets among others.
