For strengthening alternative tourism via promotion, dissemination and commercialization of tourist products, the initiative called “Co’ox Mayab” (Let’s go to Mayab) was presented, which involves 10 companies which are committed to this type of tourism in the State.
The initiative will focus on making the culture of the traditional Mayan communities available to national and foreign visitors, which will be done through contact with nature, the culture of the populations and various unusual adventures that can be achieved in these places.
The president of the Board of “Co’ox Mayab”, Mario Tuz May, said that this initiative brings together 10 companies who are dedicated to the construction of sustainable tourism in Yucatan, which promotes increasing value and the practice of responsible, supportive, fair and conscientious tourism.
He said that the initiative includes three main objective: first, the promotion of the actions that currently exist dedicated to alternative community tourism, the promotion of good tourism practices by tourists and host localities.
The second is the commercialization of tourism experiences that facilitate international, national and regional access for the social enterprises that are joining in the initiative through strategic alliances with companies dedicated to offering experiences conceived under a sustainability and values-based approach.
The third is the training of social enterprises dedicated to alternative community tourism in the region, promoting the sustainability of practices and development from tourism.
