Russian tourism and economy on the whole has been affected massively ever since the country’s attack on Ukraine. However, Russia is looking for opportunities with outbound travelers from India.

Russia took part in the worst conflict in Europe since World War II with Ukraine. Consequently, tourism turned to be the worst hit sector for the country, particularly during a time when destinations are projecting their way toward revival after the Covid disaster.

Travel to and from Russia continues to be affected by sanctions. As a result, Russia is aggressively luring travelers from more “friendly countries” and India appears to be high on this list.

At the recently-held Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) in Mumbai, which is a major travel trade happening in India, the Russian contingent presented itself in full force, with a strong attempt to advertise the destination to Indian travelers.

Representatives from the city of Moscow City Tourism Committee and Saint Petersburg Convention Bureau spoke to the media about the “plentiful tourism opportunities” that Russian destinations present for Indian travelers.

St. Petersburg Tourism and Moscow City Tourism Committee have been aggressively engaging with the travel trade with the help of road shows, demonstrations, meetings and workshops.

Russia is also considering launching electronic visa for 52 countries, including India. It had been passed in 2020, but had been delayed due to the Covid rules.
