The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) recently announced that they have decided to reopen the venue for tourism activities. Authorities have already declared that they are also ready to resume international travel operations starting last week on June 17. However, it has also been mentioned that that well-being of all travellers continues to be of utmost importance to Rwanda and hence stringent health and safety guidelines have been put in place.
All travellers arriving at Rwanda via charter flights are expected to have negative COVID-19 results within 72 hours prior to arrival. It has also been made mandatory for tourists to undergo a second COVID-19 test before arriving at any tourist attraction. Usage of masks for all guests and staff is also compulsory for all times in all public spaces.
Gorilla permits have been made available for Rwandans & EAC nationals residing in Rwanda as well as for foreign residents with slightly changes rates. The cost for mountain gorilla trekking for international tourists continues to remain the same. Special packages have been introduced for groups, families and corporate travellers on other products in Volcanoes and Nyungwe National Parks. All promotional offers in National Parks are available until December 31, 2020.
Belise Kariza, Chief Tourism Officer, Rwanda Development Board said in a press statement that in order to thrive and sustain itself in the unprecedented times caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Rwanda’s tourism industry is adapting to create a safe environment for travellers and operators. She mentioned that tourism authorities are currently encouraging travel enthusiasts and nature explorers to take advantage of the opportunity to venture out and experience the beauty and adventure that the country has to offer.
